Hermione pulled her jacket tighter around her body as a cold breeze blew by.  She stared up at the pewter sky looking heavy with snow.  The sound of fellow students chatting amongst themselves as they all made their way into the snowy town of Hogsmeade sounded through the air.  Hermione and Ginny walked in silence as they made their way down the path, the snow crunching under their feet.  The New Year's Ball was now a week away and the two girls were heading to Gladrags Wizardwear to find dresses.

"So when are you going to tell Draco that you like him?" she asked teasingly; Hermione did not need to look at Ginny to tell that there was a smirk plastered on her face.

"I don't know," Hermione shrugged, "I don't even know if he likes me or not."

"I think he does," Ginny said confidently.

Hermione felt a little relieved at Ginny's words.  She had come to realize that over the years Ginny had become very observant person, sometimes too observant for her own good.  Despite Ginny's reassuring words Hermione took a deep breath, inhaling the icy air, "I don't know.  I don't want to think about it right now."

Ginny let out an excited squeal as Gladrags came into view, "Let's go!"

She grabbed Hermione's hand and they two girls hurried to the shop.  They walked into Gladrags and looked around for a bit, only finding everyday jumpers.   Ginny walked to the middle aged woman at the counter, "Excuse me, but do you happen to have any formal dresses."

The woman looked at both Ginny and Hermione through her small cat eye glasses, recognition passed through her eyes, "Of course girls, follow me!"

She let Hermione and Ginny through a small door to a room full of beautiful long gowns.  Ginny squealed in excitement.  "My name is Mary and if you need any help selecting a dress just let me know."

They both began combing through dresses of all different styles and colors.  Once they each had about a dozen or so dresses slung over their arms they went to the single dressing room in the corner, "Ginny you go first."

Ginny smiled and went into the dressing room and quickly changed into her first dress.  She emerged from the dressing room wearing a long strapless black dress.  Hermione studied her for a moment, "No, makes you look pale."

The next few dresses were quickly turned down by either Hermione or Mary.  Finally Ginny stepped out in a long gorgeous teal dress that complimented her flaming red hair and bright brown eyes perfectly.  The dress had two pleated straps that went over one shoulder and separated in the back with a pleated A-line skirt; it was classy and elegant.  "Ginny it's perfect!" Hermione gushed over her best friend, "It looks exquisite on you!"

"It's beautiful on you dear," Mary smiled.

She smiled, spinning in around in the dress, "I love it!"

She hurried back into the dressing room, and emerged dressed normally with the dress in her arms, not bothering to try on the remainder dresses.  Once Mary removed the excess dresses Hermione began to change.  Every dress she tried on she was not completely happy with.  She walked back into the dressing room as the pink halter dress she had on was denied, she took it off and pulled on her last dress.  It was a long blush colored strapless chiffon gown with an intricate ivory band looking as if it was weaved together below her breasts, giving it an empire waistline.  The soft fabric kissed her body, fitting perfectly; it was classy yet sexy.  She walked out and Ginny's mouth dropped and she gave a delighted scream, "It's gorgeous on you!"

Hermione smiled and looked at the mirror that was nearby and Ginny said, "If you don't buy that I will murder you!"

Hermione laughed, rolling her eyes at her dramatic friend, and went to take off the dress.  When she was done they followed Mary so they could pay, when she had covered them with protective she handed them back to them, "It's on the house dears."

They both looked at her shocked and Ginny began to protest but Mary cut her off saying, "It's a thank you for helping Harry Potter defeat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named last year, it's the least I can do.  Plus I have a son in his fourth year as a Hufflepuff and I feel better knowing that you two are there."

They both thanked her and with a wave walked out the door with their dresses in hand.  They both hurried back to Hogwarts as the snow began to fall heavily.  After Hermione and Ginny parted ways she walked towards her dorm and as she walked inside she saw Draco looking at some books on one of the many shelves around the room.  He eyed the garment bag and smiled, "Can I see?"

"No, you may not Mr. Malfoy," Hermione teased.  She left the pouting Draco in the common room while she put her dress away.  She walked back downstairs and sat next to Draco who's attention was back on his book, Romeo and Juliet.

"I didn't know you read Shakespeare?" she inquired.

Draco smirked a little, "I don't," he looked back at her, "but since it's your favorite book I thought I would give it a go."

"You do know it's a love story right?"

Malfoy groaned.  Hermione rolled her eyes, "Don't whine.  It's one of the best romantic tragedies ever written!"

"Tragedy?" he said raising an eyebrow.

"Do you even know what it's about Draco?" she asked laughing at him, he just shrugged.

She sighed slightly frustrated, "It's a story about the star-crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, son and daughter of two fighting families.  They meet and fall in love, but both meet a bitter end."

"What happens to them?" he asked sounding interested.

"I'm not telling you!" she laughed incredibly at him, "You have to read it to find out."

Draco huffed, "Fine."

They both sat in comfortable silence for a moment when Draco asked, "What's star-crossed?"

"Being star-crossed is when two people's fates cross each other and deeply fall in love with one another, but it also means their relationship will have many obstacles."

He sat there for a moment staring at the cover of the book in his hands.  He looked as if he was having an internal battle with himself; he looked uncomfortable in his lost thought.  Hermione was about to ask if he was okay when he smiled at her asking, "Are you excited for the New Year's Ball?"

"Yes and no," she admitted, "I'm excited to have fun, but it's stressful as the day draws nearer because of the work that needs to be done."

"Headmistress said that if we tell the house elves how we want it to be decorated they would help while we supervise," Draco said.

"You know I don't like them working as it is, but since it's just the two of us it can't be helped; and I don't want them doing all the work," Hermione stated, "The day of the ball I'll be up early helping them, you should too."

He knew it wasn't up for debate so he just nodded and stood to leave, "Well I'm going to go to bed now. Good night Hermione."

Hermione bid him a good night and picked up the copy of Romeo and Juliet he had left on the couch and began to read.  Before she knew it she had fallen asleep on the couch, book draped across her chest, and dreamed of the star-crossed lovers.
